Britton Smith

Britton Smith is a singer, songwriter, actor, and multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges music, theater, and storytelling. Rooted in soul, gospel, funk, and rock, his creative practice explores identity, memory, spirituality, and the transformative power of live performance.

As the frontman of the New York City-based alternative soul band Britton & The Sting, Smith has earned acclaim for emotionally resonant performances that blend infectious grooves with deeply personal songwriting. The band recently toured internationally with Sammy Rae & The Friends and has sold out performances at renowned venues including the Apollo Theater, Joe’s Pub, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Rockwood Music Hall, and Nublu. Their work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New Yorker, FAULT Magazine, and PAPER Magazine, while their anthem “Let’s Get Drunk and Go to Church” has reached listeners in more than 44 countries. Their 2020 NPR Tiny Desk Contest submission was recognized as a Top Pick.

Live Performance Residency

During his weeklong residency at ArtYard, Britton Smith will step away from the momentum of touring to develop new music in collaboration with a small group of fellow artists. Conceived as an intimate space for experimentation, the residency offers an opportunity to explore new creative directions, test emerging ideas, and deepen a process rooted in curiosity, connection, and collective discovery.

Working outside the framework of a full-band performance, Smith will use the residency to create in a more focused environment, embracing the vulnerability and possibility of works in progress. The residency reflects ArtYard’s commitment to supporting artists at pivotal moments in their creative process, providing the time and space to imagine what comes next.
