ArtYard is looking for a part-time Theater/Gallery Technician to join our collaborative, supportive and diverse team.

Theater/Gallery Technician

The Theater/Gallery Technician is responsible for assisting the Technical Director in various technical functions of the Theater and Gallery surrounding installation and de-installation of the exhibitions.

Theater Technician Functions Include:

  • Assisting in installation & adjustments to theatrical lighting.
  • Running lighting cues during shows
  • Assisting in the setup of Audio equipment
  • Monitoring Audio Mixer during shows
  • Operation of projection system for film festivals
  • Operation of 3 camera system in theater
  • Editing 3 camera system content for archives, social media & residency artists
  • Receiving/installing/ de-installing scenic elements for shows & residencies.
  • Routinely performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Director in all matters that pertain to the smooth operation of performances, screenings and musical events in the theater.

Gallery Technician Functions include:

  • Assists in the installation and de-installation of gallery exhibitions.
  • Supports Technical Director in facilitating technical solutions for artists.
  • Assists in lighting and setting up of technical systems in exhibitions.
  • Assists in maintaining these aspects for the duration of the exhibition.
  • Assists in facilitating technical aspects of Artist Talks & Gallery Events.


  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Director


  • Bachelor’s degree in theatrical production, or related discipline; or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of related experience including theatrical design and working at heights
  • Scissor lift operation experience preferred


Computer literacy

  • General knowledge of lighting, carpentry, set and costume designs, sound design, technical effects.
  • 1-3 years Editing skills preferred.
  • 1-3 years of Audio skills preferred.
  • 1-3 years Rigging skills and/or certification preferred.

While performing tasks, the role may require:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to frequently climb ladders
  • Ability to frequently work at heights of up to 50 feet (cat walk heights & grid)
  • Ability to utilize hands and fingers with dexterity to operate equipment and conduct installations
  • Flexible schedule to include nights/weekends
