Experience an evening with the singular artist, musician, and storyteller Lonnie Holley.

Known for his improvisational approach to music and art, Holley moves fluidly between song, spoken word, storytelling, and performance. His music draws from a lifetime of experience, observation, and making, transforming memory and history into something immediate, searching, and alive.

Holley has released six critically acclaimed albums, including Just Before Music (2012); Keeping a Record of It (2013); MITH (2018); National Freedom (2020); and Broken Mirror: A Selfie Reflection (with Matthew E. White) (2021). His sixth album, Oh Me Oh My — produced by Jacknife Lee, which includes collaborations with Bon Iver, Michael Stipe (REM), Moor Mother, Sharon Van Etten, and Rokia Koné — came out March 10, 2023, on Jagjaguwar.

He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand, and shared stages with Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Bill Callahan, Saul Williams, Tinariwen, Daniel Lanois, and many others.

Holley’s work is rooted in an expansive creative practice that encompasses sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, film, music, and performance. Across these forms, he finds possibility in the overlooked and discarded, inviting us to see the world — and ourselves — with renewed attention and imagination.

This special performance at ArtYard takes place one week before the opening of How We Got Over, Holley’s upcoming exhibition, and follows his August residency at ArtYard.
