Join us for a special book signing to celebrate the publication of Muse Junk Mail Dead Flowers, a new book by artist Michael Angelo Mangino.
Copies of the new 76-page, full-color monograph will be available for purchase inside Mangino’s solo exhibition, Vanishing Point Forever. Studio Route 29 Co-founder and Executive Director Kathleen Henderson will share brief remarks at 1 PM, and Mangino will be on hand to sign books.
Muse Junk Mail Dead Flowers, published by Studio Route 29’s Beauty Books, gathers recent text works by Mangino. Largely non-verbal, Mangino does not explain or speak about his art. The language in this collection is appropriated from magazines and word search puzzles (a pastime Mangino is dedicated to), and printed in large capitals over small abstract paintings on paper. Excerpted from their original contexts and delivered into poetry, the resulting lines are mysterious, apt, tragic, funny, and startlingly affecting.
Vanishing Point Forever is Mangino’s second solo exhibition at ArtYard. A painter living in Pittstown who works out of Studio Route 29, Mangino’s work has also been featured in group exhibitions at Beauty Gallery (New Jersey), Center for Creative Works (Pennsylvania), Open Invitational (New York, Florida, San Franisco), Julie Casemore Gallery (California), NADA (New York City), 47 Canal (NY), Jennifer Lauren/Atelier (Pennsylvania), and SHRINE NYC.
