Jaime Lozano
Acclaimed musical theatre composer Jaime Lozano returns after last year’s Broadway en Spanglish concert for a residency to develop a brand-new collection of songs inspired by the real-life stories of local residents.
Jaime Lozano — hailed by Lin-Manuel Miranda as “the next big thing” on Broadway — is a multi-award-winning Mexican composer, arranger, and storyteller whose work has graced stages including The Public Theater, Lincoln Center, and the Goodspeed Opera House.
Performance Residency
Winter/Spring 2026
Jaime Lozano will embark on a musical storytelling residency at ArtYard, rooted in the lived experiences of community members in Frenchtown and the surrounding region. Drawing from interviews – curated in partnership with Artyard – Jaime will create a new body of work of at least four songs inspired by the voices and stories of New Jersey residents. The resulting compositions will be arranged in the tradition of Mexican folkloric music and presented in a live concert as part of ArtYard’s 2026 season.
This project highlights Jaime Lozano’s gift for honoring everyday resilience, immigrant narratives, and intergenerational memory through music. Jaime and a small creative team will conduct interviews and gather material. These sessions will explore themes of belonging, identity, transformation, and community memory. The songs that emerge will be deeply local in content but universal in spirit. By presenting them through the lens of Mexican folkloric traditions, Jaime will invite audiences to draw parallels between communities across borders.
The residency will culminate in a public performance at ArtYard in which he will be joined by wife Florencia Cuenca, an award-winning Mexican actress, singer, director, and writer based in New York City, known for her dynamic performances in Real Women Have Curves and Si Nos Dejan, as well as her acclaimed albums Aquí – The New Standards and Broadway en Spanglish.
