Gibney Company with Lucinda Childs

Dec 12—18, 2026

Presenting a broad range of aesthetics and techniques, Gibney Company has an unrelenting focus on artistic excellence and social integrity. Led by Artistic Director Gina Gibney and Director Gilbert T. Small II, Gibney Company commissions and performs works by rising and renowned choreographers worldwide who explore connections between the rigorous, often superhuman physicality of contemporary dance and responsive, humanistic storytelling.

Since its expansion in 2020, the Company has commissioned works from a wide range of choreographers. Gibney Company has been invited to perform nationally and internationally at prestigious venues and festivals including The Joyce Theater, New York City Center’s Fall for Dance, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Bryant Park Dance Festival, Holland Dance Festival, Fall for Dance North, TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND, Global Arts Live, Dance Victoria, Chautauqua Institution, DANCE Cleveland, USC Visions and Voices, The Purchase PAC, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, White Bird, Guild Hall, Fire Island Dance Festival, Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, Bryant Park Dance Festival, and New Victory Dances, among others.

This December, ArtYard welcomes Gibney Company and legendary choreographer Lucinda Childs to Frenchtown for a technical residency as they prepare a major new work, Another Look, for its world premiere at New York City Center in January 2027.

Set to Philip Glass’s Another Look at Harmony, Part 4, the new work brings together two defining figures of American minimalism. Childs first encountered Glass’s music in New York in the 1970s, around the time he was composing Einstein on the Beach — the landmark opera in which she would later perform and choreograph.

Now, nearly 50 years later, Childs is creating a new work for Gibney Company as part of her five-year residency. Twelve dancers will spend time at ArtYard in December to refine and rehearse the piece technically ahead of its premiere.
