At ArtYard, we are gearing up for a month of music, art-making, and communal celebration, and we hope that you’ll be part of it.
June kicks off strong with three concerts on the McDonnell Theater stage. On Saturday evening, the Oran Etkin Trio, featuring master kora player Yacouba Sissiko, brings their powerful jazz/world music to guide you on a trip abroad without ever leaving town. In celebration of the last day of school, bring the whole family Sunday morning for Timbalooloo, an interactive and educational musical party that will get you dancing. Susan Werner, “the elite of American songwriters,” stops by later this month with multi-instrumentalist Trina Hamlin, whoo will also open the evening.
This year marks the fifth anniversary Hatch! We hope you can join us for our final Hatch costume open studio on June 18 to bring your bird costume or puppet to life — or pick up a borrowed bird costume from our closet. We will see you in town on June 25 as we hatch from our giant egg with the Ocean Avenue Stompers and Miracle Tapestries Project.
Coming this July is a newly announced concert by critically acclaimed bluegrass/Americana band Nefesh Mountain on July 8 and the Festival of Joy film festival July 13 to 17 — stay tuned for details.
As summer draws closer, we also want to thank everyone who has joined us at events so far this spring for our events, including Memorial Day Weekend’s Amy Helm concert and the staged reading of Whittier by Tylie Shider, which capped Shider’s three weeks as the inaugural playwright-in-residence here at ArtYard.
