Where There’s Smoke: An immersive artist talk about storytelling and the art of healing
Join emerging media artist Lance Weiler as he pulls back the curtain on Where There’s Smoke, an immersive storytelling experience about life, loss, and memory that reveals itself to be both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Lance, a Columbia University professor, will share the origins of the project, its various iterations from a world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 to its reimagining as a virtual experience during Covid to how the work evolved during his recent residency at ArtYard.
The talk will come to life through a number of immersive art making moments that will engage the audience, demonstrate the underlying technology while also exploring the potential for immersive storytelling as a tool for healing.
Where There’s Smoke, which mixes generative art, audio, and the Internet of Things, is on view in ArtYard’s first-floor River Gallery through Oct. 1.
Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for seniors, students, and arts and healthcare professionals and support ArtYard’s mission incubating new work and catalyzing collaborations that reveal the transformational power of art.
