Bestselling author and outspoken columnist Lindy West (Shrill, The New York Times) and innovative comedian, composer and jazz musician Ahamefule Oluo (Now I’m Fine; Susan at On the Boards) join forces with Joseph Keckler for the next installment of The Golden Hour, a new live performance series bringing some of today’s boldest and most visionary artists together into an inviting variety show format, continues Sat., Nov. 16.
Lindy will present her signature humorous writing, at the intersection of autobiography and cultural commentary. She is the co-host of the comedy podcast Text Me Back and the author of the e-mail newsletter Butt News, widely agreed to be the best and most important e-mail newsletter of all time. She has published three books: Shit, Actually: The The Definitive, 100% Objective Guide to Modern Cinema, as well as the New York Times bestselling memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman and the essay collection The Witches Are Coming. Ahamefule will perform excerpts from their new show The Things Around Us, a dazzling new work that layers live music and narrative exploration to create an introspective evening about the things that connect us all. Combining experimental jazz, new music, Nigerian hi-life, and electronic looping with bizarre and darkly humorous accounts of strangers and acquaintances, Oluo draws out larger social and political meanings from those encounters, weaving together a tapestry of characters and existential inquiries. Featuring dynamic multi-instrumental compositions using trumpet, clarinet, vocals, looping/effects pedals, and cardboard shipping boxes for percussion, The Things Around Us is an evening that will draw you in and remind you of the beauty in life.
Upcoming: Fearless solo performer Alex Tatarsky (Sat, Dec. 14.).
Tickets are $35.
