ArtYard and the Frenchtown Bookshop are excited to announce that Stephane Wrembel, the world’s premier Gypsy jazz guitarist, will be bringing his quartet to perform 8 PM on Saturday, August 26 at ArtYard’s McDonnell Theater.

Paris-born Stephane Wrembel “just might be the greatest acoustic guitarist alive.” (The Aquarian). His playing incorporates jazz, classical, swing, and flamenco, but his focus is on the “Gypsy jazz” style of the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.

To learn the Gypsy jazz style, he traveled for years among the Romani campsites in the French countryside, playing for their weddings and parties and studying with master players Angelo Debarre and Serge Krief. Relocating to New York 25 years ago, he quickly rose to prominence, forming the band Gypsy Rumble with mandolin legend David Grisman and performing at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Lincoln Center, and at jazz festivals worldwide. His songs are featured in the films “Vicki Cristina Barcelona” and “Midnight in Paris” (Oscar and Grammy winner), leading to his performing at the 2012 Academy Awards ceremony.

Wrembel is an engaging storyteller on stage. His “clear passion, superb tonality, and stunning finger work make the most mind-blowing guitar lines appear elementary,” making his quartet’s concerts “a wonderful celebration of pure musical spirit.” (Music Connection).

Tickets are $35 and doors open a half hour before the show starts. To review McDonnell Theater policies, visit our FAQs.
