Simon Hanes: Natural Fun & American Dance Music for 2 Keyboards
In his newest works, Simon Hanes expands his compositional techniques, drawing on chaos, chance, and superimposition, as he works towards what he describes as “a secret improvisational, musical language.” Drawing on an array of inspirations, including baroque and medieval music, jazz fusion, disco, and sample-based music, Hanes will present two works, Natural Fun and American Dance Music for 2 Keyboards.
Simon Hanes is a California-born, Brooklyn-based composer, performer, and arranger. His work revolves around bridging his main influences; soundtrack music from 1960s/70s Italian films, contemporary classical music, and non-idiomatic improvisation. His many projects include large ensembleTredici Bacci, thrash-noise outfit Trigger, which has performed extensively in the US and Europe as part of composer John Zorn’s bagatelles project; GNR8RZ, a noise/improv quartet with Anthony Coleman, solo works, and a new, epic work GARGANTUA.
