Emily Bate: (You Make Me Feel Like) Open Rehearsal

Join us for an open rehearsal for a new performance by singer, composer, and songleader Emily Bate tentatively called (You Make Me Feel Like). The work is a minimalist, theatricalized concert based on background singers. Emily is composing new, original songs, then removing the melody, which no one will ever hear. 

In (You Make Me Feel Like), background singers perform supporting labor in a mysterious bardo with no lead singer in sight. Where did the melody go? What is left in its wake? The show explores emotional textures of an age of unfolding collapse, and how our current polycrisis moves from distant background noise to a four-alarm fire.

Culminating in an open rehearsal, the residency work includes research and exploration, looking at choreography, music and staging, to bring the concept of the piece to life with four singers and piano.
