ArtYard and The Museum of Every Day Life are soliciting submissions for the upcoming exhibition Deep Seated, which opens at ArtYard on Oct. 18, 2025. This open call is for artists, philosophers, collectors, and ordinary people to contribute to the exhibition.
Deep Seated explores the ancient yet still ubiquitous chair. Responding directly to human anatomy and our need for rest and repose, the chair also resonates with a multiplicity of connotations, from the ease and comfort suggested by recliners and rocking chairs, to notions of belonging and togetherness symbolized by the proverbial seat at the table. Chairs can also project absolute power, as embodied in the throne, and punishment, as delivered by the electric chair. Chairs enable us, secure us, connect us, isolate us, and appear as rich symbols in dreams, fairy tales, and religious myths. Deep Seated is curated by Clare Dolan, Founder of The Museum of Every Day Life.
We welcome contributions in any form — from personal artifacts accompanied by your narrative to ideas, theoretical writings, and research.
To submit your object or idea for consideration, visit the contact page on The Museum of Everyday Life’s website (www.museumofeverydaylife.org) and use the form to send curator Clare Dolan a message with a brief description of what you have in mind. She will respond with more details.
