December is a season of change, of shining light in the darkness, and of showing love to your community. At ArtYard, as we reflect on all we’ve done together in 2022, we are also looking forward to what’s ahead.

This month, we’re announcing a host of programs, including a screening of a documentary that tells the story of a family in search of justice, a lively concert by a vintage French jazz band, and two performances by the world-renowned Isabella Rossellini which explore the intersection of the worlds of humans and animals.

The new year also brings the opening of three distinct exhibitions that are different approaches to finding beauty and engaging in creativity around unauthored objects hiding in plain sight.

Our 2023 programming kicks off the first Saturday of January with the Big Screen Wonders Film Festival, a series dedicated to films that demand a giant screen. We’ll experience Blade Runner: The Final Cut, The Matrix, Days of Heaven, and Gravity, along with some special guests the way they were meant to be seen — on the McDonnell Theater’s two-story-tall film screen with surround sound.

If you are looking for a last-minute gift, our Contrary Art Shop will feature new items this month.

Coming soon are ArtYard sweatshirts, which pair perfectly with our ArtYard hats and T-shirts. Our tees and sweatshirts are printed by the Center for Creative Works, a unique art studio focusing on developing creative workplace potential and cultural identity for people with intellectual disabilities.

We are also ecstatic to share that a limited number of painted bags by artist Janet Ruttenberg will be on sale in our shop soon. Ruttenberg was the featured artist in Janet Ruttenberg: Beholder, and we are honored to work with her once again.

All merchandise sales support ArtYard’s programming and mission to incubate creative expression and catalyze collaborations that reveal the transformational power of art.

In addition, our search for two new team members continues. We are accepting applications for two open roles at ArtYard — Managing Director and Assistant to the Executive Director.

Please visit our jobs page to learn more about the roles and how to apply. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis, and encourage candidates to submit their applications by Dec. 9. It’s not too late to share the job postings with anyone in your network who you think may be interested.

More information and links to tickets for upcoming programs are below. For tickets, you can also stop in or call our Box Office during gallery hours at 908.996.5018, ext 407.

And finally, please note that we are closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

We hope to see you soon and wish you a happy new year!
