We are excited to share news with you about artists in residence joining us this spring at ArtYard — each bringing new opportunities for our community to get a front-row seat to new work.

First, join us in celebrating TyLie Shider as the inaugural recipient of the ArtYard Playwright Fellowship, a new initiative to support mid-career playwrights and theater artists. TyLie, who brought his new play Whittier to the McDonnell Theater stage last spring, will be in residence nine months this year and will offer public engagements such as workshops or public readings, culminating in a final showcase later this fall.

In addition, we are pleased to welcome this month Where There’s Smoke creators Lance Weiler and collaborators, who are offering the community two chances to engage with early versions of the upcoming immersive exhibition opening on June 17 — it’s not too late to register for tonight’s session here.

Sebastienne Mundheim returns at the end of this month in the leadup to her and White Box Theatre’s performance Kea and the Ark, which investigates the life of Kea Tawana. Tickets are on sale for two performances on May 6 & 7.

Finally, the ArtYard team has also been working closely with Natalie de Segonzac to fabricate works in her upcoming exhibition Evidence.

This month we also announce two additional program offerings — Creative Movement for Older Adults and, to celebrate the longest day and arrival of summer, our first Summer Sunset Ritual and Community Potluck.

Tickets to our concert series are going fast. Check out our calendar and get tickets for the upcoming Madison McFerrin, Jackie Venson, and Eilen Jewell performances.

We hope to see you soon!
